Artist Statement:
My design for the Shore Street cabinet centres on a powerful monochrome portrait of a horse emerging from sweeping, wind-like movement that wraps across all visible sides of the junction box. The design transforms the cabinet into a dynamic piece of public artwork that encourages viewers to move around it and discover the full composition.
The horse represents the historic role horses once played along our coastline and specifically references the horse that helped tow the RNLI lifeboat at Donaghadee before modern launch systems were introduced. Historically, horses were used along the shoreline to help position and launch the lifeboat into the sea, playing a vital but often forgotten role in the lifesaving efforts of the town’s maritime rescue history. This connection between horse, sea and community forms the heart of the artwork.
