Question 1: Where is Boom Studios?

Answer 1: We have 3 art studio sites across Bangor, Co Down. Our HQ building at 80A Main St contains our office, gallery and workshop space also. We have Boom 2 across the road from HQ on Main St, and one in Ballyholme. See our About Us page for the locations/more details.

Question 2: What activities can I take part in at Boom Studios?

Answer 2: We run a year-round programme of public workshops for all ages (the Creative Days programme), professional development for artists & makers (the Trade programme), a Volunteering programme, as well as regular outreach at local festivals and pop-up events. Don’t miss Late Night Art (latest info in our News section) where we open the doors on the last Thursday of the month, 6-9pm (except December).

Question 3: Can I hire Boom Studios privately?

Answer 3: Yes! Depending on availability, we can hire the workshop out on a self-sufficient basis, or provide you with a complete meetings/arty party package to suit your needs. We also have a smaller break-out space in the gallery, and hotdesking is available on our first floor office area as well. To enquire about bookings please contact us.

Question 4: Are studios available?

Answer 4: When a studio becomes available, it is circulated to our waiting list, and in the event that it doesn’t suit anyone there, publicly on social media/website. You can view current studio availability/register yourself on the waitlist here.

Question 5: Can Boom Studios provide a quote and deliver an art class/party event at my workplace/club/home?

Answer 5: We have a bank of excellent arts facilitators in our Creative Days programme, many of whom are well experienced in delivering corporate events, parties, staff development days, etc at a location to suit you. Please contact us if you would like to discuss this.

Question 6: What support is available for local artists in ards and north down?

Answer 6: Please check out our Trade programme, offering professional development support to artists. We also work closely with Culture Ards and North Down, who are our local council arts department and provide some local funding and development opportunities too. Membership based groups like Visual Artists Ireland and a-n Artists provide insurance to eligible members as well as lots of online resources.

Question 8: What is your refund/cancellation policy?

Answer 8: This is currently under revision - please contact us for the latest version available.

Question 9: How much do the workshops/classes cost at Boom Studios? -

Answer 9: Open Art on a Wednesday morning is a drop-in community art session and asks for a donation of £6 if possible. Creative Days workshops range from around £7 for children’s classes up to c.£80 for an afternoon of silversmithing, or £120 for a block of 4 acrylic painting classes. The average is probably £15-£30 per session but you can browse all classes here for exact costs.

Question 10: How much is studio hire at Boom Studios?

Answer 10: £165-£250 per month inclusive of wifi and utilities.

Question 11: Is Boom Studios Accessible?

Answer 11: With assistance. Our HQ building has a service lift, with manually closing cage/external door. We unfortunately do not have disabled-access toilets. We would be glad to discuss accessibility needs with you, please contact us.

Question 12: Are Boom Studios art classes suitable for beginners?

Answer 12: Yes! Unless otherwise stated in the workshops page for that class, groups tend to be mixed ability with many newcomers to Boom. You can also contact the facilitators via their workshop page if you have any specific questions. Some classes such as life drawing or sketch walks may be more turn-up-and-participate than tuition, although assistance will always be readily available.

Question 13: Do I need to bring my own materials?

Answer 13: Unless specified in the class information, art materials will be provided for you.

Question 14: Are there jobs at Boom Studios?

Answer 14: We work with freelance artists within our Creative Days programme. If you are interested in becoming an arts facilitator at Boom please email marianne@boomstudios.org.uk. We currently have 2 staff and employment opportunities within Boom are therefore rare however we do have a volunteer programme if you would like to gain experience with us.
