Artist Statement:

Cormorant design: I opted to focus in on an area of the bird rather than its complete body. This was in consideration of the box size, as I felt it would have a better visual impact. The Cormorant is also pointing the direction to walk where they can be viewed in real life.

The top and sides were based off the stone carvings on the nearby electric box, I took the shapes from these to create a pattern. The back of the box also follows the other nearby one with an illustration of the Priory. My aim is for these designs reflect the history of the town, and combined with the Cormorant they become a celebration of both the history and natural landscapes of the area.

For a sense of cohesion I used a similar colour pallete throughout, I opted for more muted natural tones with consideration for where the box is located. The most vibrant colour reflects the poppies found at the nearby memorial.
