Artist Statement :
Inspired by Bangor’s coastline, this artwork celebrates the town’s strong connection to the sea and the rich biodiversity found along its shores. The image centres on an underwater scene, highlighting some of the overlooked rock-pool species such as crabs, limpets, sea anemones, shrimp and fish. A dynamic perspective allows the viewer to see both the world beneath the surface and the coastline above. The elusive otter references the wildlife that inhabit Bangor’s coast that you may be lucky enough to see, while the swimming platform at Skippingstone Beach pays tribute to the hardy Bangorians who swim year-round. My goal is to reflect the harmony between the local community and the marine life that surrounds them.
