Are you Creative? Let's Find Out!

You might think you’re not that creative.  Can’t draw!  Could never paint that!  But the need for creativity is so much more prevalent than using it for decor and function, and you may well be rocking some of the skill set already! You can learn to hone your creative skills further through many of the art workshops and classes at Boom Studios.

Creativity is defined as “the use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness.”*

Did you know STEM is now STEAM? They added arts as the “A” to the science, technology, engineering and maths as key education areas for innovation and emphasising project based learning. Quite simply, there is no design without aesthetics, no field study without photography and drawings, no innovation without imagination, etc. Creativity, the arts, are essential.

When something doesn’t work very well in your living space, it’s creativity that thinks “what we need is”.. and improves your experience.  When you have an impossible number of drop-off/pick-ups/tasks and need to mobilise your family in the best order, that’s definitely creative skills!!

As technology and environment change at great speed, it’s creativity that allows us to think on our feet and adapt to our surroundings.  Creative industries are a growth area, with groundbreaking, innovative startups adapting to the needs and abilities of consumers and technology. Harnessing or staying one step ahead of new opportunities/threats such as AI.

So how can you develop these skills?

For children and adults alike, messy play or activities utilising found materials, such as art journaling, improve creative decision making.  Colour placement, aesthetics and try-it-and see experimental attitudes or building and improvising models from junk all fire up those imaginations.  Teamwork and collaboration can be part of the skillset as each person’s input creates something new.

Skilled classes such as jewellery making, or drawing/painting not only improve your technical ability in the art itself, but also teach discipline in process, and we know that practice makes better.  The more you practice creative endeavours, the more you build a library of learned strategies.  Not only can you create new, you can improve, see the need for edits, and repair.

When you learn and use these skills, the way of seeing/thinking can spill out in to your everyday experience.

We have so much available to you at Boom Studios that can develop your creative skill set!  Whether you are setting out on self-improvement, or it happens organically because you’re here enjoying yourself and relaxing, it’s all great stuff.  So what are you waiting for?
