Wintering at Boom Studios: Festive Art & Craft Workshops to up your Christmas Game
Nights drawing in, tick. Gave up and put the heating on, tick. THAT neighbour putting their decorations up in October (does that really happen?)... However you feel about the changing seasons, we’ve got some amazing options for you to learn a new craft or hone your skills for a DIY Christmas this year - get ready to feel warm and fuzzy with our festive workshop feature.
First, announcing a very special in-house event!
Pre-Lit, the Festive Craft Trail and Open Studios Experience (Sat 19th November)
On Bangor’s lights switch-on day, join us for an open studio and trail of festive craft tasters around our 2 Main St buildings. Suitable for all ages, meet at Boom HQ on Main St to receive your event bag and festive zine/map, before embarking on an adventure around our open studios and craft stations. Make Christmas Cards, try a bit of life drawing, visit our sewing group’s festive refreshments fundraiser and be sure to chat & shop with our resident artists in their studios on the way round! What better way to get in the spirit for the big tree switch-on. From 2pm, free of charge (activities subject to capacity).

This first group of workshops are for the grownups but may be suitable for older children with a participating adult, get in touch if in doubt! All workshops are suitable for beginners, and most have small class numbers so book your places today to avoid disappointment! Click images to book.
Christmas Cushions - Print & Sew club (2 workshops Sunday 6th & 13th November)
A brand-new collaboration between Jenni Robinson Art and Threadquarters. Week 1 you’ll join Jenni to learn the craft of linocut printmaking, carve a 30cm square design and print it on to gorgeous tactile cotton using special washable fabric ink.
Week 2, you’ll pop over the road to Boom 2 and Threadquarters sewing school. Suzanna will be ready and waiting with your beautiful printed fabrics to help you sew a pair of festive cushions (after a quick road-test with your machines, all pre-set-up). Limited to 6 places, cushions will be printed in white ink on red or green cotton.
Christmas Cards - Linocut Printmaking 3-hour Taster Session (Fri 18th Nov)
Join Jenni Robinson Art for a whistlestop tour about the process of linocut printmaking, before choosing a design to transfer and carve on to your lino. You’ll ink up your design and print it on cards/paper to be used in card-making (set of 5 blanks provided). Take your print block home with you to make as many cards as you need, and a craft knowledge to keep you designing your own art & stationery for years to come.
Create & Chat - Last Sat of each month (29th October & 26th November)
A social art/craft session for all tabletop/easel formats. Bring your own projects and materials, or Jenni can arrange some basic materials for you to try something new - we’ll check in with bookings so we can put that in place!
it’ll be a lovely atmosphere to crack on with any festive makes. Pinterest at the ready…
Art for the Heart - 3rd Saturday every month (December for festive class)
Oonagh’s mindful multi-media workshop will be focusing on making gift tags. A chance to put a bit of extra heart in to your hand-made gifting.
Festive Macrame Classes -27th November & 4th December
Get knotting christmas tree wall hangings, snowflakes and angels at these special festive workshops with Clare.
